The initiative brings together representatives from communities, associations, and local leaders to strengthen dialogue, social participation, and development in the regions where the company operates
Acelen Renewables, an energy company owned by Mubadala Capital, has established its first Community Advisory Board in Minas Gerais. The initiative aims to strengthen social participation and expand dialogue with communities in regions linked to the development of Acelen Agripark, the company’s agro-industrial innovation and technology center.
The board brings together representatives from Montes Claros, Nova Esperança, Mirabela, and Coração de Jesus and will serve as a permanent forum for interaction between the company, local leaders, farmers, schools, community associations, and institutions in the region.
The group was set up over the past few months with the participation of 14 local associations and organizations that represent more than 40 communities. To define the board’s methodology, mission, values, and priorities, the company held monthly participatory workshops inspired by social dialogue practices adopted by ABIQUIM (Brazilian Chemical Industry Association).
The initiative is part of the company’s social responsibility strategy, in line with a growing trend toward strengthening community participation in projects related to energy transition and sustainable development. In recent years, Acelen has already made an impact on more than 50 communities through social, educational, and community-building projects, directly benefiting approximately 3,200 people.
“A Community Advisory Boards is a continuing space for listening and building trust with the people in the regions where we operate. We want to strengthen transparent, close, and long-term relationships with the communities,” says Marcelo Lyra, Vice President of Communications, ESG, Institutional Relations, and Regional Development at Acelen Renewables.
The board’s inaugural activities featured a program that included a technical visit to the project site, a symbolic tree-planting ceremony at Acelen Agripark, and the swearing-in ceremony for board members.
“This space is a genuine commitment to involving communities in the project’s development. The energy transition only makes sense to us if it is inclusive, built together with the people—especially rural producers, associations, extractivists, and all those who make their living from the land,” stated Leonardo Ferreira, Manager of Institutional Relations and Social Responsibility.
The upcoming meetings will be dedicated to finalizing the work plan and developing the priority actions established by the group.
